Bain & Company, Boston 1981-1984
Helped launch Bain’s healthcare practice. Dr. Oliver worked under the direction of Mitt Romney and consulted with Hospital leadership to develop a database of best practices and standardized costs against which to benchmark hospitals. As part of his commitment to the practice, Dr. Oliver “wrote the book” which served as the practice manual for other Bain healthcare teams. In addition to hospitals, Dr. Oliver worked with MNB (then Maryland National Bank), Moody’s Investor Service, Dun & Bradstreet and Boston Edison on strategy projects. Dr. Oliver was directed by Fred Reicheld on the MND project and performed some of the initial work on customer loyalty.
CapGemini, Boston 1992-1997
Improved core business operations at St. Vincent Hospital, Dun & Bradstreet, Kmart, Mobil Oil and Lexus-Nexus. At St. Vincent Hospital, Dr. Oliver led a team of 100 to improve clinical processes for this $600 million tertiary hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. Oliver helped the CFO of Kmart save $80MM through outsourcing its printing operations. Dr. Oliver also led a team to select Kmart’s new company-wide accounting system. At Lexus-Nexus, Dr. Oliver led a team that re-engineered the editing process for this leading financial publisher. At Mobil Oil, Dr. Oliver helped the CIO reorganize Global Information Services.
KMPG, Boston 1985-1991
Improved accounting systems, manufacturing practices, quality management and business processes. Dr. Oliver developed IT strategy for Bay State Gas, and assisted BCBSMA with claims process, accounting process and testing of a major new claims system. Dr. Oliver was certified as an ISO9000 auditor and shepherded KPMG through two years as a Baldrige finalist.

Dr. Oliver and his teams have supported Secretaries and Commissioners of Human Services in ten states over the past 10 years. Provided consulting services with a boutique consulting firm in Alaska. Developed the business plan for Alaska’s first private salmon aquaculture business. Developed and obtain VC funding for a company with a bio-engineering approach to making fish meal.
